This competency-based course is designed to prepare students to assume responsibility for maintaining and improving their own health and the health of their families. In this course, students will demonstrate the ability to use the eight overarching content standards of learning essential health concepts, analyzing health influences, accessing valid health information, demonstrating interpersonal communication, decision making, goal setting, health-enhancing behaviors and health promotion. These overarching standards will be applied in the six California Health content areas of a) Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs, b) Nutrition and Physical Activity, c) Growth, Development and Sexual Health, d) Mental, Emotional and Social Health, and f) Injury Prevention and Safety.
