This competency-based course provides an introduction to the field of psychology through an exploration of basic methodology and the biopsychological, cognitive, developmental, and sociocultural domains of the discipline. After a brief survey of the history of psychology and a review of research and statistical evaluation, students will investigate key areas of inquiry including: biological bases of behavior; sensation and perception; motivation and emotion; learning and memory; thinking and language; states of consciousness; lifespan development; personality and assessment; psychological disorders and their treatment; and social and cultural dimensions of behavior.
